Where Are You?

“The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, To all who call upon Him in truth.”

Psalm 145:18 (NKJV)

Immediately after the serpent caused Adam and Eve to disobey God, the account continues by relating that God came searching and calling for Adam. This is an emotional moment and speaks to the fact that God yearns for intimacy between Himself and who He created in His image and likeness.

Intimacy, i.e., close familiarity or friendship, is an integral part of any relationship. To be ‘familiar with’ speaks of knowing someone and not merely knowing about him/her. God knows everything about us, and we must endeavour to know more about Him as we allow Him into our daily activities. This is possible through an intentional daily prayer time with Him.

Our Heavenly Father knows the importance of prayer to all believers. That is the reason why He put the comprehensive plan in place immediately after the ‘Fall of Man’. The covering of Adam and Eve foreshadowed the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross for all mankind. The thought of the suffering that Jesus endured should make us all treasure the benefits that we inherited. Let’s all remember that we’re commanded to pray. God knows that our human frame is weak. The lust of the flesh and the lust of the eye can be our downfall (like in the Garden of Eden). Without strength from God, we are no match for the enemy. Jesus says, “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation…” (Matthew 26:41).
